Mews and Nips: Rare Male Tortie Helps Artist Through Illness

Eddie, a rare male tortoiseshell cat who shares his home with artist Charlotte Hann in Taunton in the UK, is helping his human cope with several debilitating illnesses that rendered her unable to leave her house. Charlotte says Eddie and her artwork help her deal with her constant pain. “Some people who are ill tend to think about all the things they can’t do, but I prefer to think about what I can do,” she told This is the West Country. “Eddie is an absolute delight and like a little best friend to me. One should never underestimate the healing power of pets!” You can read more about Eddie and Charlotte here. The story claims that only 1 in 400,000 tortoiseshell cats is male, but according to a study by the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri, that number is 1 in 3000.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Sunday, we talked about the gifts of autumn, on Monday, we told you about a new database that lets you search for a veterinary specialist anywhere in the US, on Tuesday, we asked you to take a brief survey (and if you haven’t already done so, we’d love to hear from you, and you might win a $50 Amazon gift card,) on Wednesday, we introduced you to Pet First Aid 4 U, on Thursday, Allegra talked about her experience of going to the veterinary dentist, and on Friday, we reviewed A Gift From Bob (enter to win a copy.)

Today’s video is titled The Neediest Cat in the World. Kodi really loves his daddy! However, I think Ruby could give him a run for his money for this title.

Have a great weekend!
