Review: Cubby Mini Glass Bowl from PawNosh

Buying a food or water bowl for your cat isn’t just a matter of finding the cutest pattern or color. What’s much more important than looks is the material the bowl is made out of, and the size.

Plastic bowls may contain BPA’s, and they can also harbor bacteria once they start getting scratched. Feline acne, which manifests in small, oily black bumps on the cat’s chin, very similar to blackheads in humans, is believed to be a reaction to plastic food bowls. The best materials for cat bowls are glass, stainless steel, or ceramic. If you use ceramic bowls, be sure that they are lead-free.

When it comes to size, the wider the bowl, the better. Most cats prefer wide, shallow bowls. High, narrow bowls allow the cat’s whiskers to touch the sides. Since whiskers are highly sensitive, this may discourage cats from using the bowl. This is known as whisker stress.

I previously reviewed PawNosh’s Cubby bowls. Like the Cubby, the Cubby Mini bowls are made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass. These non-toxic bowls are designed and manufactured in the USA. The FDA qualifies glass as the only food and beverage packaging material generally regarded as safe for use by humans. This classification allows glass to be used for food and beverage applications without toxicity testing. No other material has garnered this approval.

New from PawNosh: The Cubby Mini

PawNosh just released their new Cubby Mini – a smaller version of the original Cubby, designed for cats and toy dog breeds. The Mini is just as beautiful as the original, but more shallow, which helps avoid whisker stress.

Of course, the true test for any pet bowl is whether your cats will eat and drink from it. I tested the PawNowsh bowl with treats, because I wanted to get some pictures, and I won’t disrupt Allegra and Ruby’s mealtime by sticking my camera in their faces.

As you can see from the photos, the girls didn’t hesitate to eat from the bowls – in fact, I couldn’t refill them fast enough to get some good pictures. The girls are always helpful when it comes to getting photos for reviews, but I think they really loved this particular photos shoot!

These bowls are a beautiful combination of design and function. The rich colors are simply gorgeous. They’re very heavy, so if you have a cat who likes to push the bowl around, she’d be hard pressed to get this one to move.

PawNosh offeres a lifetime breakage warranty, provided that bowls are not used in the microwave, oven or freezer. The bowls are dishwasher safe.
