Cruelty-Free Kitty Helps You Choose Beauty Products That Are Not Tested on Animals

Conscious living means making conscious choices about all aspects of our lives, including the cosmetics we use on ourselves. Using chemical free beauty products is not just better for you, it’s also better for your cats, because not only does your skin come in contact with those products, but so do your cat’s fur, paws, and mouth – and some of the chemicals used in conventional cosmetics can be harmful to both humans and cats.

Another consideration that is important to me when choosing cosmetics and personal care products is that they are not tested on animals. I recently came across Cruelty-Free Kitty, a website for beauty junkies who don’t want to compromise their values for the sake of a pretty makeup palette. Created by animal lover Suzi Sheler, the site features a wealth of resources, including a list of cruelty-free brands, a guide to which brands do and don’t test on animals at some of your favorite beauty product retailers, product reviews, and much much more.

How Cruelty-Free Kitty differs from Leaping Bunny

I asked Suzi how her site differs from the better known Leaping Bunny organization. “Leaping Bunny is an international organization for cruelty-free certification,” explained Suzi. “I’m just an individual asking companies directly about their policies, and I try to be transparent about their answers (by publishing the policies). That way, my readers can figure out which companies they want to support. Also, brands generally go to Leaping Bunny for certification, so not all cruelty-free brands are certified by them. Many cruelty-free brands aren’t certified. I reach out to brands myself and ask them about their policies.”

Suzi recently announced that she’ll switch to 100% cruelty-free brands that are not owned by a parent company that tests on animals. “I have nothing against cruelty-free brands with parent companies that test,” she wrote on Instagram. “I just prefer supporting 100% cruelty-free companies.”
