An innovative program at a Clintonville, Ohio shelter is bringing shy cats out of their shells. The Crime Cats Mystery Program at the Cat Welfare Association is the brainchild of self-published author Wolfgang Parker, whose middle grade books star two crime-solvers based on cats in his Clintonville neighborhood. First through eight graders spend 30 minutes a week reading to the cats in the “shy cat room.” Volunteer coordinator Laurel Bidwell said the response from the cats was encouraging. “When I first went into the ‘shy cat’ room, the cats would scatter like ants,” she said.
