No matter how much you love your life, your environment, and your routine (and I do), sometimes, it’s good to have a change of scenery. Changing your environment can get you out of a rut and stimulate your creativity. A change of scenery can be as small as taking a different route to work and as big as a trip around the world.
I got to do something somewhere in between the two last weekend: I visited friends in New York City. New York City is my favorite city in the whole world. I love that you can walk everywhere you need to go, there are a so many great restaurants on every block, there’s Central Park, and there’s the incredible energy of a city of millions of people. But my primary purpose for this visit had a cat theme: I got to meet my friends’ new kittens for the first time!
Rudy, the little tabby boy on the left in the photo above, is six months old, his “sister” Fanny is nine months old. My friends adopted both of them in April. I fell in love (shhh – don’t tell Allegra and Ruby) at first sight. They are beyond adorable, and it was so much fun to be around kitten energy for a few days.
Aside from hanging out with the kids, my friend and I walked all over Manhattan all weekend long, which is my favorite thing to do when I’m in the city. On Saturday, we walked from the Upper Westside all the way down to Union Square. On Sunday, we walked the entire length of the High Line. The weather was my kind of perfect: very hot and sunny, reminiscent of the song “Summer in the City.”
I loved everything about my weekend, especially the time spent with Rudy and Fanny. One of the highlights was waking up Sunday morning with Ruby purring up a storm and licking my face – so sweet!
I found an unexpected memento of my weekend when Allegra and Ruby helped me unpack my bag Sunday night. I noticed Allegra pawing at something, and when I took a closer look, I realized that it was a little toy mouse. Since it turned out to be Fanny’s favorite mouse, I mailed it back to her on Monday. Apparently, she had been looking everywhere for it after I left!
When was the last time you had a chance of scenery?
I saw the sign in the photo above in a Petco store near the Flat Iron Building.
