Conscious Cat Sunday: Pause and Reflect Between the Years

pause-and-reflect

I’ve always used the time between Christmas and New Year’s to reflect back on the year that is about to pass, and to set some intentions for the year to come. The Norwegians actually have a name for this week: “romjula.” “Rom” means ”room” or ”space.” Romjula is the ”space” between jul (Christmas) and nyttår (New Year). To me, there’s something magical about this space between the years.

This week between the years is a great time to consciously give thanks for all the blessings the year has brought. It’s also a good time to acknowledge the things that may not have gone quite the way you would have wanted. Forgive yourself for any mistakes you may have made, and forgive others if you feel they’ve somehow done you wrong. Release the negatives gently, and with compassion for yourself and others.

This space between the years is also a good time to think about some new habits you might want to create for the New Year. Good habits help you build change into your daily life.

Your cats can serve as a wonderful reminder that it’s not all about doing, but that sometimes, just being is enough. Give yourself permission to paws (okay, I had to use it at least once in this post!) and reflect this week – and perhaps, you’ll even decide to make pausing and reflecting one of your new habits for 2016.
