Ripple Rug Review

Ripple-Rug

Play is vitally important to a cat’s mental and physical health, and it’s especially important for indoor cats. Even though cats may sleep up to 16 hours a day, when they’re awake, they need stimulation. The best way to accomplish this is with play, and the best toys are those that engage your domestic tiger’s natural hunt and prey instinct. The Ripple Rug does this in a super creative and fun way.

This cat activity mat is a puzzle toy and interactive toy all in one clever design. The mat consists of two pieces of carpet with a non-slip rubber backing. The top piece has multiple holes of different sizes, and features velcro strips that allow you to attach it to the bottom carpet in endlessly different configurations, essentially turning the Ripple Rug into a brand new toy with each play session.

Before we even tested the Ripple Rug, I was impressed with the amount of thought that went into the design. The Ripple Rug is made in the USA using 100% recycled materials. Each Ripple Rug keeps 24 plastic bottles out of the landfill or floating in the ocean. The Ripple Rug is easy to clean with soap and water. But what really impressed me was the thought that was given to safety.

From non-toxic carpeting to safety slits to a non-slip design, the Ripple Rug is made with your cat’s safety as the number one priority. It even features a “touch point release,” which means that the velcro strips will release at a pressure of greater than four pounds. Not every cat will fit through the holes, even with the safety slits. The slits can easily be extended with scissors for larger cats. The makers of the rug recommend that play be supervised, and I concur.

Of course, the test of any toy is whether your cats will use it, right? Allegra and Ruby were immediately intrigued with the Ripple Rug, to the point that they started playing with it before I even had it right side up (note to self: read product directions before filming for product reviews…) I mistakenly put the rubber backing of the bottom piece face up. The video below shows Ruby having a blast with the Ripple Rug a few minutes after I first put it out, and she didn’t seem to care that Mom had set it up “wrong.”

Once I realized my mistake, I flipped the bottom piece and attached the top with the velcro strips, and barely had time to grab my camera before Allegra and Ruby started to play.

While the Ripple Rug will entertain your cats even without your involvement, they’ll have even more fun if you play with them. I used wand toys to tease the girls through the holes, and they both loved it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t coordinated enough to take pictures while using a wand toy, so I don’t have any photos or video to show you.

This wonderfully designed toy is sure to bring many hours of fun and entertainment to your cats. Allegra and Ruby have been playing with it every day, and that’s rare for any toy at our house.

The Ripple Rug is available from Amazon for $39.99 with free shipping for Prime members. For more information about the Ripple Rug, and to see some adorable videos of cats having fun with the rug, visit RippleRug.com.
